Nov 26 (Reuters) - Angola have named Mabi de Almeida as their new national team coach, football federation officials said.

Angolan-born de Almeida was an assistant to Luis Oliveira Goncalves, who quit last month after a series of embarrassing losses in the qualifying round for the 2010 World Cup.

Angola, whose fortunes have plummeted since they played at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, are hosts of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations but failed to reach the World Cup in South Africa.
