LOS ANGELES, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Chile handed Sven-Goran Eriksson his first defeat as Mexico coach with a 1-0 win in a friendly.

Juan Carlos Valenzuela put through his own goal in the 75th minute when he tried to clear a cross from Emilio Hernandez.

Mexico had slightly the better of Wednesday's scrappy game in which both sides fielded experimental line-ups.

Francisco Fonseca had two good chances for Mexico but saw one saved by goalkeeper Miguel Pinto and headed the other over the crossbar.

Mexico won their first three games under Eriksson, all World Cup qualifiers played at home.
