MEXICO CITY, July 8 (Reuters) - Former Villarreal goalkeeper Mariano Barbosa is joining Atlas of Mexico from River Plate after fellow Argentine Marcelo Ojeda failed a medical.

"We have acquired the transfer of Mariano Basbosa. The goalkeeper comes to the Red and Blacks of Atlas on a three-year contract," the Mexican club said in a statement.

Ojeda, with Barbosa one of three keepers in the River squad during the just-finished Apertura championship, lost the job when it was discovered during his medical examination last month that he had a blood disease.

Barbosa, 24, played for Spain's Villarreal between 2005 and 2007.
