Jan 7 (Reuters) - Former Brazil World Cup captain Marinho Peres has been named as the new coach of Angola's AS Aviacao, the club said.

The 60-year-old former Barcelona defender, who led Brazil at the 1974 World Cup finals in West Germany, signed a contract for the next two seasons to replace Manuel Fernandes who quit last November to return to Uniao Leiria in his native Portugal.

Peres, who has coached Sporting Lisbon, Belenenses, Maritimo and Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal as well his former club Santos in Brazil, takes charge after ASA finished seventh last season but were champions for three successive years from 2002 to 2004.
