ST ETIENNE, France, May 20 (Reuters) - Japan midfielder Daisuke Matsui has agreed to sign a three-year contract with St Etienne, the Ligue 1 club said on Tuesday.
St Etienne managing director Vincent Tong-Cuong told Reuters he had finalised the deal with Matsui in Nagoya, where the player is taking part in a training camp with the Japan team.
Matsui, 27, joins on a free transfer from Le Mans, a club he signed for in 2004, when they were in the second division.
Le Mans were promoted to Ligue 1 in 2005 and Matsui played the last three seasons for them in the top flight, becoming one of their most valued players.
He played 34 league matches this season, scoring five goals.
St Etienne, who have won a record 10 French titles, finished fifth in Ligue 1 to qualify for the UEFA Cup. Le Mans ended up ninth.
