ABU DHABI, Sept 6 (Reuters) - North Korea continued their good run in 2010 World Cup qualifying with a 2-1 win over United Arab Emirates on Saturday.
The North Koreans, who have not qualified for the World Cup since 1966, pulled off another surprise to go top of Group Two, holding off the hosts for 70 minutes before going two goals ahead.
UAE's Basheer Saeed gifted the Koreans their first goal when he buried the ball in his own net.
An Chol-hyok fired home a superb second goal for the Koreans before Saeed cancelled out his own goal with an 85th-minute deflected strike.
The defeat is the latest setback for UAE, whose huge investment in soccer is yet to make an impact on the national side.
North Korea are two points clear in Group Two and face their archrivals, South Korea, in Shanghai on Wednesday.
The match was moved after North Korea refused to allow the South to play their national anthem or use their flag in the North Korean capital Pyongyang.
