LOME, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Togo coach Henri Stambouli has quit his post just a week before the 2006 World Cup finalists play a vital qualifier in Zambia.
The Togo Football Federation has confirmed the departure of the 47-year-old Frenchman, who only took up the job in May.
Stambouli, previously coach of the Guinea and Mali national teams, told reporters that constant in-fighting among the leaders of the Togo federation had been behind his decision to terminate his 18-month contract.
Togo officials said Mawuena Kodjovi would take over for next Wednesday's Group 11 qualifier in Zambia. Defeat for Togo would effectively end their chances of progressing to the last phase of the qualifiers for the 2010 finals in South Africa.
Togo were surprise qualifiers for the last World Cup finals in Germany, where their preparations were also characterised by shambolic organisation and by player dissent over wages and bonuses.
