RIO DE JANEIRO, May 14 (Reuters) - Atletico Mineiro's Geninho became the 10th coaching victim of the year in Brazil when he quit following his team's elimination from the Copa Brasil on Wednesday.
"I have just given up the job and the Roosters can go on their own way without Geninho," he told reporters after a 2-0 defeat by Botafogo in the quarter-final second leg.
Geninho, who replaced Emerson Leao in December, had been under pressure since a 5-0 drubbing by arch-rivals Cruzeiro three weeks ago.
Ze Carlos headed Botafogo ahead from a corner in the 54th minute and Alessandro drilled home the second in stoppage-time. The first leg had ended goalless.
Atletico, celebrating their Centenary, fell at the quarter-final stage for the fourth year in a row.
Botafogo joined Sport Recife, Vasco da Gama and Corinthians in the semi-finals of the knockout competition.
Sport beat Internacional 3-1 for a 3-2 aggregate win, Durval scoring the decisive goal with a 30-metre free kick in the 76th minute.
Vasco won 3-1 at Corinthians Maceio to complete an emphatic 8-2 aggregate win and Corinthians beat Sao Caetano 3-1 on Tuesday to go through 5-2.
