JOHANNESBURG, Aug 31 (Reuters) - TP Mazembe Englebert of the Democratic Republic of Congo won their first game in this year's group phase of the African Champions League with a 3-0 defeat of Enyimba on Sunday.
Tresor Mputu, last year's leading goalscorer in the competition, finally got his first goal of this campaign, converting a second-half penalty in the Group B tie played in Lubumbashi.
Mazembe had been 1-0 up at half-time after Luyeye Mvete had opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Patou Kabangu added a third 11 minutes from time.
Mazembe remain in bottom place in the four-team group standings despite the win, but moved to four points, three behind leaders Coton Sport of Cameroon.
There are two more rounds of matches to be played with the top two finishers proceeding to the semi-finals.
