LONDON, Aug 31 (Reuters) - England coach Fabio Capello named uncapped Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard in his 23-man squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Croatia on Sunday.
With Steven Gerrard, Michael Carrick and Owen Hargreaves out injured, the tough-tackling, hard-running Bullard, who turns 30 in October, gets a surprise call.
There was no place though for Michael Owen, who looked rusty in his first full appearance of the season on Saturday for Newcastle United, or fellow striker Peter Crouch.
Emile Heskey continues his international Indian summer by retaining his place, with Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe and Theo Walcott offering attacking options.
David Beckham is again included.
England play Andorra in Barcelona next Saturday before taking on Croatia in Zagreb on Sept. 10.
