Northern Ireland name squad for World Cup qualifiers

LONDON, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington announced a 22-man squad on Wednesday for their 2010 World Cup qualifying matches against Slovakia and Czech Republic next month.

Northern Ireland travel to Slovakia for their opening Group Three match on Sept. 6, returning to Belfast four days later to host the Czechs.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Maik Taylor (Birmingham City), Alan Mannus (Linfield) Jonathan Tuffey (Partick Thistle);

Defenders: Chris Baird (Fulham), Stephen Craigan (Motherwell), Gareth McAuley (Ipswich Town), Jonathan Evans (Manchester United), Michael Duff (Burnley), Ryan McGivern (Manchester City), George McCartney (West Ham United), Aaron Hughes (Fulham).

Midfielders: Steven Davis (Rangers), Michael O'Connor (Crewe Alexandra), Sammy Clingan (Norwich City), Chris Brunt (West Bromwich Albion), Dean Shiels (Hibernian), Keith Gillespie (Sheffield United).

Forwards: David Healy (Sunderland), Warren Feeney (Cardiff City), Martin Paterson (Burnley), Kyle Lafferty (Rangers), Peter Thompson (Stockport County)
