LONDON, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton has admitted a charge of violent conduct against former Manchester City team mate Ousmane Dabo, the English FA said on Wednesday.

Barton was given a four-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for the attack when he appeared in court last month.

At the time of his sentencing, Barton was already serving a six-month prison sentence for an attack on a teenager in Liverpool city centre in December 2007.

The FA charged Barton with the attack on Dabo, which took place at City's Carrington training ground outside Manchester in May last year, after he was released from prison at the end of July having served 74 days of his sentence.

The 25-year-old midfielder, capped once by England, has been granted a personal hearing before a Regulatory Commission on a date yet to be decided, the FA said on its website (www.thefa.com).

Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan said two weeks ago he was giving Barton a chance to redeem himself following his troubles and that he still had a future at the Premier League club.
