Aug 11 (Reuters) - Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby is likely to miss the first month of the Premier League season with a thigh injury, the club said on their website (www.arsenal.com).
"I think Diaby will be out for about a month, it is his thigh," manager Arsene Wenger said of Diaby, who had hoped to stake a claim for a starting place in Arsenal's midfield following the departures of Mathieu Flamini, Gilberto and Aleksandr Hleb.
The 22-year-old Frenchman missed last weekend's pre-season Amsterdam Tournament because of the problem and Wenger may instead ask Brazilian Denilson to partner Cesc Fabregas in the Champions League third qualifying round tie against Twente Enschede on Wednesday.
