GLASGOW, Oct 27 (Reuters) - A hat-trick from striker Scott McDonald earned champions Celtic a 3-0 home win over Motherwell in the Scottish Premier League on Saturday.
McDonald headed his first after 42 minutes before grabbing a second after the interval with a low shot past keeper Graeme Smith.
The former Motherwell player completed his treble with a late penalty after being brought down by Stephen Craigan.
"Winning the league is our priority," manager Gordon Strachan told the BBC after Celtic stayed top with 25 points from 11 matches. "I thought it was a great game and we played excellently."
Third-placed Hibernian, who have 21 points, had Dean Shiels sent off as they lost 1-0 to a Billy Mehmet goal at home to St Mirren while bottom club Gretna went down 4-0 at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Kilmarnock won 3-1 against Hearts, who had Costa Rican striker Christian Nade sent off just before halftime.
Second-placed Rangers, who have 22 points, play their game in hand at Dundee United on Sunday. Aberdeen host Falkirk the same day.
