LONDON, Dec 14 (Reuters) - Second-placed Manchester United's main injury worries before their visit to Liverpool on Sunday concern Irish centre back John O'Shea, who scored the late winner for United at Anfield last season.
He picked up a groin strain during Wednesday's Champions League match at AS Roma and is in a race against time to be fit. Midfielders Anderson and Owen Hargreaves are both nursing injuries and are doubtful.
Liverpool's Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso is likely to return to the squad after missing the last nine matches with a metatarsal injury but Irish defender Steve Finnan is doubtful because of a calf injury. Danish Centre back Daniel Agger, who has not played since September, is still out with a foot injury.
