LONDON, Dec 14 (Reuters) - The English Football Association and representatives of Fabio Capello were meeting on Friday before an announcement confirming the Italian as England's new head coach.

The FA board approved the appointment of the 61-year-old on Thursday, ending the search for a successor to Steve McClaren, who was sacked last month after England failed to qualify for the finals of Euro 2008.

Stuart Pearce, the coach of England's Under-21 side, was also at the FA's headquarters in central London on Friday morning. Capello himself was not present.

An FA spokesman confirmed on Thursday that the board had approved Capello's appointment, but that negotiations over the details of his contract would continue before any official announcement was made.

"There are no problems and we're going through the process for a successful conclusion," FA spokesman Adrian Bevington said.

An indication that an announcement was due either on Friday or during the weekend at the latest was the publication on the FA's Web site on Friday (www.thefa.com) of a selection of photographs in a "Fabio Capello Gallery" and his impressive CV as a player and coach.

Capello, who has previously managed AC Milan, Real Madrid, Juventus and AS Roma, will become England's second overseas coach following the tenure of Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson, who held the post from 2001-06.

At the age of 61 he would be the oldest of the 15 men who have managed or coached England since 1946. (Reporting by Mike Collett; Editing by Miles Evans)
