LONDON, Feb 7 (Reuters) - Liverpool will be without leading scorer Fernando Torres for Sunday's Premier League match at Chelsea after he was injured playing for Spain on Wednesday.
Torres managed just 23 minutes of the 1-0 win over World Cup runners-up France before limping off with a hamstring injury.
To make matters worse for under-pressure Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, midfielder Javier Mascherano will not return until Friday after playing for Argentina although he should be available for selection.
"The news we have on Torres is that it is a hamstring injury. I need to talk to the doctor but I think he will miss this game," Benitez told Liverpool's Web site (www.liverpoolfc.tv) on Thursday.
"Normally, it is a week when a player goes off like this. It is a big problem for us."
Liverpool, who are fifth in the table and struggling to ensure Champions League football next season, will also be without Daniel Agger, Andriy Voronin, Alvaro Arbeloa, Fabio Aurelio and the suspended Xabi Alonso.
