July 24 (Reuters) - Paul Ince's appointment as the Premier League's first English black manager at Blackburn Rovers last month has inspired black coaches, his former England team mate Les Ferdinand said on Thursday.
"I’ve spoken to numerous black coaches now and they’ve said people who were about to give up coaching and look at something else have said Incey’s inspired them to go on and complete their coaching badges," Ferdinand, 41, said at a football pools function.
During Ferdinand’s playing career attitudes to black players improved but black managers remained a rare sight. Now due to the 40-year-old Ince’s rise Ferdinand believes attitudes are changing.
“What we do need is for Paul Ince to be successful, and I’m sure he will be, because that will open the door for other people to have a bite at the cherry,” Ferdinand added.
