Albania striker Besart Berisha, who joined English Championship club Burnley last month, will not play for them this season after injuring cruciate knee ligaments in an international against Malta a few days later.
Burnley signed Berisha from Hamburg SV for 340,000 pounds but manager Steve Cotterill confirmed on the club's Web site: "He snapped his cruciate and had an operation on Wednesday, so he'll be out for the rest of the season."
Burnley, seeking a way back to the top flight for the first time since 1976, are currently 13th in the table but have a game in hand on all the clubs above them.
