Makelele signs one-year extension at Chelsea

LONDON, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele has signed a one-year extension to his contract which will keep the 34-year-old at Stamford Bridge until 2009, the Premier League club said on their Web site (www.chelseafc.com).

The senior member of the Chelsea squad, whose duties are mainly defensive, has made 183 first team appearances (two as a substitute) and scored two goals.
