CARDIFF, Nov 17 (Reuters) - Wales scraped a 2-2 draw with Ireland through an 89th minute penalty from Jason Koumas in their Group D Euro 2008 qualifier on Saturday.

With Germany and the Czech Republic already qualified from the group only pride was at stake in the match.

Koumas opened the scoring in 23rd minute when he met a Chris Gunter pass and directed a header firmly across Shay Given into the far corner of the net.

Ireland struck back eight minutes later through Robbie Keane and took the lead on the hour when a cross to the near post by lively substitute Stephen Hunt caused panic in the home defence and Kevin Doyle prodded the ball home from close range.

When David Cotterill was brought down in the box by Paul McShane, Koumas made no mistake with the spot kick to rescue a point. (Editing by Clare Lovell
