LONDON, June 16 (Reuters) - Premier League side Bolton Wanderers signed Birmingham City (second division) midfielder Fabrice Muamba in a deal worth over 5 million pounds, the club announced on Monday.

"Fabrice is a tough-tackling central midfielder... and he'll be a tremendous asset to Bolton Wanderers over the coming seasons," Bolton manager Gary Megson told the club Web site (www.bwfc.co.uk).

Muamba, 20, has signed a four-year contract and previously played for Arsenal before signing for recently relegated Birmingham in 2007 following a loan spell.
