Ferguson appoints Mike Phelan as new assistant

LONDON, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Sir Alex Ferguson has appointed Mike Phelan as his new assistant replacing Carlos Queiroz, who became Portugal
coach in the close season, the club announced on their webiste (www.manutd.com).

Phelan, a former United midfielder, previously held the role of first team coach at the Premier League champions.
