LONDON, May 14 (Reuters) - Iain Dowie was appointed first team coach of English Championship (second division) side Queens
Park Rangers, the club announced on Wednesday.

The 43-year-old, who spent three years as a player at the London club, has signed a two-year contract.

"QPR is a fantastic club, with a steep and successful history and I'm going to relish the challenge that lies ahead," Dowie told the club Web site(www.qpr.co.uk).

QPR were bought last September by Renault Formula One chief Flavio Briatore and a group of friends including F1's billionaire supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
