LONDON, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Liverpool's injury-prone Australian winger Harry Kewell is close to making a return after missing the entire season so far.
Kewell has been sidelined after getting injured during the Asian Cup but coach Rafael Benitez is hopeful he will push for a first team place soon.
"He's been working really hard with the physios and next week could be training or running with the rest of the first team," Benitez said on Liverpool's web site (www.liverpoolfc.tv).
"It's clear he's someone with great quality and experience and we need these kind of players for the rest of the season," he said.
Kewell has struggled to live up to his billing since joining Liverpool in 2003 from Leeds United. He spent most of last season injured, although he did get back to make a substitute appearance in the Champions League final.
