LONDON, Dec 20 (Reuters) - John Collins resigned as Hibernian manager on Thursday.

The former Scotland international took over in October 2006 and led the Easter Road club to success in the Scottish League Cup last season.

"I have taken the club under the current resources available as far as I can," the former Monaco and Everton midfielder said in a statement.

"I feel that I leave a fine set of young players and a great new training ground."

Hibernian are in fifth place in the Scottish Premier League.
