SEEFELD, Austria, June 12 (Reuters) - Czech Republic need to repeat their vibrant first-half display against Portugal in order to reach the Euro 2008 quarter-finals, coach Karel Brueckner said on Thursday.
Despite losing 3-1 to Group A winners Portugal on Wednesday, the Czechs showed more attacking zest than the previous match against Switzerland and Brueckner called for more of the same in the winner-takes-all fixture with Turkey in Geneva on Sunday.
"We need to play like we did in the first half against Portugal," the coach told a news conference. "The players will be well prepared."
Winger Libor Sionko netted for the Czechs as the teams went in level at halftime but there were plenty of other chances for a Czech side barely recognisable from the one lucky to beat co-hosts Switzerland 1-0 in their opening match last week.
Brueckner made a surprise decision to bring in Milan Baros for all-time top scorer Jan Koller.
GOAL DROUGHT
Although Baros was unable to end his international goal drought going back to March 2007, the Euro 2004 top scorer had several chances and added much-needed verve to the attack.
With the help of playmaker Marek Matejovsky, the other change from the first game, the Czechs proved they could string together threatening moves.
Asked whether he would consider playing Baros and Koller together, the typically elusive Brueckner simply said: "We have options".
The Czechs and Turkey have three points, equal goal difference and the same goals scored, meaning if they draw at the end of normal time there would be a penalty shootout to determine who finishes second in the group to go through.
Brueckner said they would be practising penalties in training but added: "We hope to win it in normal time".
