WARSAW, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Poland could stage Euro 2012 with Germany if co-hosts Ukraine have problems with preparations, new Polish FA president Grzegorz Lato said on Thursday.

Lato, elected head of the PZPN earlier in the day, added that Poland was also ready to host the tournament on its own.

"If Ukraine doesn't make it on time then we can organise the tournament together with Germany," he told the TVN news channel.

Former Poland forward Lato was appointed after an FA election called to avoid FIFA sanctions and the potential loss of the country's right to co-host Euro 2012 with Ukraine.

Earlier, Polish state news agency PAP quoted a Ukrainian official from the National Agency for Euro 2012 saying the country had stopped about 80 percent of its preparations for hosting the tournament due to an ongoing financial crisis.

After two visits by UEFA president Michel Platini, European soccer's governing body last month upheld the right of Ukraine to keep the tournament subject to strict monitoring.
