LONDON, Nov 17 (Reuters) - Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton's season took another blow when the club confirmed a knee injury sustained against Wigan Athletic on Saturday would keep him out of action for eight weeks.
Barton, who has already missed a chunk of the season because of a six-match suspension for attacking a former team mate at Manchester City, has damaged medial ligaments in his right knee, Newcastle's website (www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk) said.
"It's a body blow for us and I'm very sorry we've lost him because he's one of our leaders on the pitch," acting manager Joe Kinnear said.
