LISBON, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Benfica's new Spanish coach Quique Flores is still without a Portuguese Premier League win after his 10-man side salvaged a 1-1 draw at home to champions Porto on Saturday.
Benfica, who also drew 1-1 in their league opener last week at promoted Rio Ave, made a nervous start and fell behind after 11 minutes.
Argentine midfielder Lucho Gonzalez put Porto in front, beating goalkeeper Quim from the penalty spot after a foul by Greek midfielder Kostas Katsouranis.
Benfica rallied and their Argentine newcomer Pablo Aimar had a shot cleared off the line by Porto defender Fernando following 17 minutes after a defensive mixed-up.
Driven on by the passionate atmosphere created by 53,000 fans at the Luz stadium, Benfica levelled in the 55th minute.
Paraguayan striker Oscar Cardozo headed home after Porto's Brazilian keeper Helton failed to clear a cross from the left by new French signing signed Hassan Yebda.
However, the hosts were down to 10 men just three minutes after equalising when Katsouranis was sent off for a second yellow card.
Coach Flores was appointed in May to succeed compatriot Jose Antonio Camacho, who resigned in March after a run of poor results.
