DUBLIN, Aug 28 (Reuters) - Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni named the following 22-man squad on Thursday for their opening 2010 World Cup qualifiers next month.

Injured Newcastle United winger Damien Duff misses out as Ireland face Georgia at the neutral venue of Mainz in Germany for their opening Group Eight match on Sept. 6 before visiting Montenegro four days later.

Defenders: Alex Bruce (Ipswich Town), Damien Delaney (Queens Park Rangers), Richard Dunne (Manchester City), Steve Finnan (Liverpool), Stephen Kelly (Birmingham City), Kevin Kilbane (Wigan Athletic) Joey O'Brien (Bolton Wanderers), John O'Shea (Manchester United), Paul McShane (Sunderland)
