COPENHAGEN, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Danish champions AaB Aalborg sacked coach Bruce Rioch on Thursday following the team's poor results in the domestic league this season.

Rioch, an ex-Scotland midfielder and former Arsenal manager, joined Aalborg in the summer and guided the club into the Champions League, where they have drawn once and lost two matches in Group E.

In the 12-team Danish league they lie 11th with eight points from 10 matches.

"The qualifying for the Champions League succeeded, but we have to observe that our results in the Superleague have not been satisfying," sports director Lynge Jacobsen said in a statement on the club's website (www.aabsport.dk).

Assistant coach Allan Kuhn replaces Rioch for the remainder of the year and a permanent coach is expected to be named on Jan. 1, the club said.
