BUCHAREST, Aug 19 (Reuters) - Fiorentina's Romania striker Adrian Mutu has dislocated his elbow training with the national squad and will miss Wednesday's friendly with Latvia.

"Mutu's left arm is immobilised and he needs two weeks to recover," Romania team spokesman Paul Zaharia told Reuters.

He said coach Victor Piturca had called up Universitatea Craiova striker Florin Costea to replace Mutu.

Zaharia added that Mutu will miss the Champions League third qualifying round second leg tie at Slavia Prague next Wednesday, while his Italian club said in a statement he is doubtful for the start of the Serie A season at the end of the month.

He could also struggle to be fit for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and the Faroe Islands on Sept. 6 and 10 respectively, Zaharia added.

Mutu is currently appealing against a ruling by soccer's world governing body FIFA that he should pay 17.17 million euros ($25.21 million) in compensation to his former club Chelsea.

He described as inhumane and unfair FIFA's decision this month to order him to pay record damages for taking cocaine while playing for the Premier League side in 2004.
