LYON, France, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Olympique Lyon's France forward Sidney Govou will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his right Achilles tendon in training on Wednesday, his club said.

"Sadly, he (Govou) will be unavailable until the end of the season," Lyon said in a statement on their website (www.olweb.fr). The injury will require surgery and is a severe blow to the Ligue 1 leaders, chasing an eighth consecutive title but under threat from second-placed Girondins Bordeaux, who are one point behind with a better goal difference.

Winger Govou is the only player in Lyon's current squad with Brazilian midfielder Juninho to have been involved in all Lyon's seven title-winning campaigns.

The 29-year-old has won 37 caps for France, scoring 10 goals. He made unwanted headlines last month when he was arrested and found five times over the French drink-driving limit. His driving licence was confiscated and he faces a court hearing.
