LYON, France, Aug 11 (Reuters) - France defender Francois Clerc will be out for five or six months after suffering a knee injury, Olympique Lyon said on Monday.
Clerc ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the first half of his club's 3-0 win over Toulouse in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
"Francois Clerc had a MRI scan this morning which revealed the seriousness of his injury... He will be out between five and six months," the seven-times French champions said on their website (www.olweb.fr).
Clerc, 25, has earned 13 caps for France since making his international debut in late 2006 after only a few Ligue 1 games with Olympique Lyon.
He became a regular starter for France at right back in 2007 when Willy Sagnol was injured. He played France's last game at the Euro finals in June against Italy after Sagnol was sidelined by coach Raymond Domenech due to poor performances.
France lost 2-0 to Italy and suffered a shock first-round exit.
Clerc was tipped to be named in the French squad to be announced on Tuesday for an international friendly in Sweden on Aug. 20.
