MADRID, June 18 (Reuters) - Primera Liga Getafe confirmed the appointment of Victor Munoz as their new coach on Wednesday.
The 51-year-old steps in to replace Michael Laudrup who quit at the end of last season after leading the modest Madrid-based side to the King's Cup final and the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup, in their maiden European adventure.
Munoz has some tough acts to follow. Quique Sanchez Flores led them to 13th in their first season in the top-flight in 2004/5 before moving on to Valencia.
Current Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster took the helm for the following two seasons taking them to their first King's Cup final in 2007, and consecutive ninth-placed finishes in the league, before Laudrup stepped in last season.
Munoz, who was sacked from Recreativo Huelva in February, has coached Villarreal, Real Zaragoza and Panathinaikos among others. He won the King's Cup with Zaragoza in 2004. He will be presented on Thursday, the club said.
