SOFIA, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Injured Bulgaria captain Dimitar Berbatov will miss a friendly against Wales in the Black Sea port of Bourgas on Aug. 22, the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) said on Friday.
The Tottenham Hotspur striker, who sustained a groin injury against Everton on Tuesday, will be replaced for the Euro 2008 warm-up game by fellow English Premier League player Valeri Bozhinov.
New Manchester City signing Bozhinov had originally been set to play in Bulgaria's Under-21 friendly against Greece in Athens on Aug. 21.
The match marks the return of 62-year-old Dimitar Penev as Bulgaria coach. He was appointed for a second stint in charge last month after Hristo Stoichkov quit in April to take over at Spain's Celta Vigo.
Bulgaria are preparing for September's European qualifiers against the Netherlands and Luxembourg. They are second in Group G with 15 points from seven matches, two points behind Balkan rivals Romania.
