AMSTERDAM, Dec 14 (Reuters) - Sunday's clash between league leaders Ajax Amsterdam and PSV Eindhoven is in doubt after a Dutch court allowed police to stage a strike this weekend.

The top-of-the-table clash and third-placed Feyenoord's game with AZ Alkmaar on Saturday are at risk with police in Amsterdam and Rotterdam due to stop work at the time of the matches.

The police officers are demanding more pay and a Rotterdam police source told Reuters on Friday they were determined to strike and there would not be any police at the De Kuip stadium.

"If the mayor is a wise man, he will postpone the match," said the source who declined to be identified.

A spokeswoman for the city of Amsterdam said no decision had yet been made on whether the Ajax match would go ahead.

The cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam sought a court order to ban the work stoppages because they feared for public safety.

The court turned down the request but in its decision, excerpts of which were shown on Dutch television, said: "Police officers...are ready to return to their normal tasks as soon as a threat to public order materialises".

Ajax top the standings with 31 points after 14 matches, one point ahead of PSV with Feyenoord a further point behind. (Additional reporting by Theo Ruizenaar in Amsterdam) (Reporting by Niclas Mika; Editing by Ken Ferris)
