July 25 (Reuters) - Real Madrid defender Gabriel Heinze has backed Alex Ferguson in his attempts to keep Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United.

"Cristiano Ronaldo belongs to Manchester United and we will have to see how any negotiations develop, but for me what Ferguson is doing is completely correct," the former Manchester United player told Spanish state television news.

Heinze joined Real last August after making it clear he wanted to leave Old Trafford, although his attempt to force a move to Liverpool failed when a Premier League arbitration panel refused his request.
